If this sounds like you, and the career below sounds exciting, we'd like to hear from you.Working ArrangementHybridJob DescriptionThe Manufacturers Life Insurance Company (Bermuda Branch) provides life insurance products internationally, with the capacity to issue policies covering the lives of residents of over 100 countries around the world. -It is a fast-paced and growing business, operating out of its registered office in Hamilton, Bermuda. -The legal team provides legal support to all areas of the Bermuda Branch's business. -This position will work closely with our business clients and will report to the AVP and Assistant Chief Counsel to the Bermuda Branch.Individual Accountabilities: -

• Advise the Bermuda Branch on a variety of legal questions including issues relating to product development, distribution, underwriting, new business, in-force, titles, and claims.
• Provide legal advice relating to bank premium financing, including bank onboarding and review of collateral assignment documentation.
• Provide legal support to the Bermuda Branch's compliance team on various questions including AML/ATF, privacy, common reporting standard (CRS), broker conduct, and anti-fraud.
• Participate in relevant local trade association meetings, e.g., the Bermuda International Long-term Insurers and Reinsurers (BILTR).
• Supervise Bermuda regulatory and industry updates and advise our legal, compliance, and business colleagues of relevant developments.
• Advise on questions of Bermuda and international law, interacting with outside counsel as needed.
• Conduct and lead legal research projects as may be required.
• Provide any other legal advice and support to the Bermuda Branch as the need may arise.Shared Accountabilities:
  • Support Manulife's overall mission, with a focus upon legal, compliance and risk management objectives
  • Support Manulife's corporate governance model, with detailed understanding of governance documents, corporate policies and standard operating procedures -
  • Maintain an understanding of the larger insurance and financial industry, with a focus upon legal and regulatory developments that are likely to impact the Bermuda Branch's business objectives
  • Actively pursue opportunities for skills training and professional development -Job Requirements:
    • Law Degree, with strong academic record
    • Licensed to practice law
    • Minimum 2-3 years prior relevant experience in major law firm and/or corporation
    • Knowledge of and experience with life insurance law preferred
    • Outstanding analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
    • Well organized, with a strong attention to detail
    • An understanding of financial principles and risk
    • Ability to quickly identify and respond to legal problems/risk
    • Tactful and operates with a high level of discretionDecision Authorities:
