Job Description Job Description This position supports Central Office site exit, decommissioning, and shutdown projects involving legacy telecommunications infrastructure. Key Role Requirements This role is best suited for candidates who have: Experience working inside telephone Central Offices Previous involvement in site exit, decommissioning, or shutdown projects Prior experience in travel-based telecom roles with frequent travel Travel Expectations Heavy travel is required and is an essential part of this role Work assignments may span multiple cities and states Candidates should be comfortable spending extended time on the road. Pre-Employment Requirements Basic Excel assessment Ability to pass a background check Reliable transportation Ability to perform heavy lifting , including battery and equipment removal Compensation (Based on Experience) $30/hr – Entry-level $31–$32/hr – Some Central Office exposure $33–$34/hr – Solid Central Office site exit / decommissioning experience No overtime (if night work is required, the following day is scheduled for rest) Role Overview Telecommunications Technicians will work within live and retired Central Office environments , supporting site exit activities related to PSTN and switching infrastructure. Work is performed in traditional telecom facilities rather than data centers or cloud environments. Key Responsibilities Support Central Office site exit and shutdown activities Decommission and remove legacy switching equipment, frames, cabling, and power systems Install and remove 2-wire jumpers between MDF and switching infrastructure Terminate jumpers using soldering or IDC techniques Test circuits prior to service changeover Recover and remove legacy wiring per project documentation Provide and test 2Mb coaxial circuits between DDFs Assist with power-down and battery removal activities Label, document, and track removed infrastructure Follow safety, regulatory, and project-specific procedures Required Experience & Skills Minimum 2 years of experience working inside Central Offices Experience with site exit, decommissioning, or shutdown projects Familiarity with: MDF / IDF frames PSTN environments High-volume frame work 2-wire services, ISDN 2, ISDN 30, and 2Mb circuits Proficiency with soldering tools and IDC tools Strong attention to detail and documentation Clear verbal communication skills Additional Notes This role is designed for technicians who enjoy project-based work , travel , and hands-on decommissioning efforts within Central Office environments.
