Opportunity We are seeking a board-certified or board-eligible
Trauma Surgeon with specialized training in Surgical Critical Care
or Acute Care Surgery. This position is based at a prominent
academic hospital and trauma center, where you will deliver acute
care surgery services, mentor medical trainees, and engage in
clinical research within a bustling trauma and critical care
setting. Our organization is set to expand with the launch of a
cutting-edge academic health center in 2027, which will enhance our
capabilities in research, education, and patient care. About the
Position: The Acute Care Surgery Division and our medical group are
on the lookout for a highly skilled surgeon with fellowship
training in Surgical Critical Care or Acute Care Surgery.
Candidates must hold board certification or be board-eligible in
General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. This role presents an
exciting chance to be part of a leading academic hospital and
quaternary care center in Indiana and the surrounding region.
Institutional Highlights: A new $4.3 billion hospital and academic
health center is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2027.
This facility will feature 864 beds, with approximately one-third
dedicated to critical care, and will be adaptable to meet patient
needs. The Medical Education and Research Building will be equipped
with state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories, and technology
aimed at addressing some of medicine's most pressing challenges.
Our primary mission is to enhance the health of Indiana residents,
train future physicians, and leverage research to transform
healthcare. About Our Institution: Our facility is consistently
recognized among the top institutions by the University Health
Consortium (UHC). Trauma Service: With over 3,500 trauma admissions
each year, our center ranks in the top 5% of trauma centers
nationwide by volume. In 2023, our team assessed more than 4,600
injured patients, with approximately 85% suffering from blunt
trauma and 15% from penetrating trauma. Emergency Surgery Service:
This service operates at a similar capacity to the Trauma Service,
attracting patients from across the state. Two Acute Care Surgeons
are available around the clock, with one serving as the primary
on-call Trauma Surgeon and the other managing Emergency General
Surgery while providing support to the trauma surgeon. Critical
Care & Emergency Services: Our hospital features one of the largest
critical care departments in the nation, boasting 130 critical care
beds and a fleet of Lifeline Helicopters along with fixed-wing
transport capabilities. We handle approximately 100,000 emergency
department visits each year. Medical Group: This multispecialty
group, formed in collaboration with a leading university, will
employ the new acute care surgeon. Education: The Department of
Surgery trains 11 residents annually and offers three surgical
critical care fellowships, along with one AAST-approved two-year
ACS fellowship. Research: We provide robust support for clinical,
translational, health sciences, and basic science research
initiatives. Key Responsibilities: Deliver Acute Care Surgery
services, including trauma, emergency general surgery, and surgical
critical care across various settings such as the emergency
department, operating room, intensive care unit, and outpatient
clinic. Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows
in all facets of acute care surgery. Engage in clinical research
opportunities at one of the largest medical schools in the country.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality
patient care, supported by over 25 Acute Care Surgery Advanced
Practice Providers. Compensation: The salary and academic/clinical
rank will be aligned with experience. A generous allowance for
continuing medical education, along with research and professional
support, will be provided. Basic Qualifications: M.D., D.O., or
equivalent educational background. Fellowship training in Surgical
Critical Care or Acute Care Surgery. Board certified or board
eligible in Surgical Critical Care. A strong dedication to
