Job Description:
Job Summary: The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for dispensing
drugs as prescribed by physicians/prescribers and providing
information to patients about medical side effects, medication
adherence, and proper usage of medications. The Staff Pharmacist is
responsible for understanding and remaining in compliance with
governmental agency regulations, third-party payor contractual
obligations, and federal and state regulations that govern his or
her assigned job duties. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Reviews
prescriptions issued by Physician, or other authorized prescriber
to assure accuracy and determine formulas and ingredients needed.
Compounds and dispenses prescribed medications, drugs, and other
pharmaceuticals for patients using standard formulas and processes
such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients. Directs
pharmacy staff engaged in mixing, packaging, and labeling
pharmaceuticals. Answers questions and provides information to
pharmacy patients on drug interactions, side effects, dosage and
storage of pharmaceuticals. Maintains established procedures
concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances and
disposal of hazardous waste drugs. Enters data such as patient
name, prescribed medication and cost, to maintain pharmacy files
and inventory. Examines medications to determine identity, purity,
and strength. Complies with state and federal drug laws as
regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement
administration, and the food and drug administration. Maintains
accurate records for controlled substances (i.e. properly filing
invoices, signing received orders, maintaining perpetual inventory,
etc). Ensures that outdated and damaged drugs are removed from the
pharmacy inventory. Provides supervision, guidance, direction and
training to all pharmacy staff. Monitors physical and electronic
prescription records and pharmacy processes to ensure accuracy and
compliance with third-party payors, federal and state policies, and
policies presented by regulatory/accreditation agencies. Assists
the Pharmacist In Charge/Executive Management in conducting audit's
of the pharmacy's prescription records and/or processes. Provides
timely feedback to management regarding operational, billing, and
pharmacy staff issues. Submits appropriate reports to governmental
agencies and Executive Management in a timely manner (i.e. MAPS
reporting, CMEA reporting, annual controlled substance reporting,
etc.). Studies existing and new legislation, anticipates
legislation and advises management on needed actions. Maintains
professional and technical knowledge by completing company assigned
training, attending educational workshops, and reviewing
professional publications assigned by management. Complies with
pharmacy and legal requirements by adhering to the pharmacy's Code
of Conduct of Ethics, HIPAA regulations, Fraud Waste and Abuse
standards, and other applicable regulations. Responsible for
ensuring that deadlines are met by working effectively under
pressure to get jobs completed to the highest standard. Responsible
for having effective customer and client service skills. Represents
Biomed at various meetings, workshops, and conferences as an
attendee, speaker, and/or presenter. Other Responsibilities: As
assigned, communicated or required. Knowledge: Computers -
Knowledgeable of computer hardware, cash register, Microsoft Office
Suite, and inventory management programs/software. English
Language- Knowledgeable of the structure and content of the English
language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of
composition, and grammar for employee communications and
presentations. Ability to read and interpret documents such as
safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure
manuals. Ability to write routine notes in the pharmacy's system.
Customer and Personal Service- Knowledge of principles and
processed for providing customer service and services to management
personnel. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality
standards for services, and evaluation of what would provide
customer and management satisfaction. Skills and Abilities: Ability
to Keep Confidential Information- Current and future business
information and activities of management are strictly confidential
and not to be discussed in casual or formal manner with anyone.
Ability to keep patient information confidential. Communicating
with Supervisors, Peers and Subordinates- Providing information to
supervisors, co-workers, subordinates and customers via the
telephone, in written form, email or in person. Making Decisions
and Problem Solving- Analyzing information and evaluation results
to choose the best solution and resolve problems. This position
demands flexibility and multi-tasking; personnel in this position
must become accustomed to interruption and be comfortable with
working in an open situation. Organizing, Planning and Prioritizing
Responsibilities - Personnel in this position must develop specific
goals, and plans to prioritize, organize and accomplish/complete
responsibilities and be able to manage one's own time effectively

otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
Conducting research online using government websites as well as
traditional online research methods. Communicating with Persons

organization, representing the organization to customers, the
public, government, and other external sources. This information
can be exchanged in person, in writing, or by telephone and/or

It is important that personnel in this position be aware of and

management personnel. Education/Experience Requirements: Must
possess a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree Must possess a current
Registered Pharmacist License in the State of Ohio without
restrictions. Minimum of 2 years of retail/community or specialty
pharmacy experience, with knowledge of compounding. Physical

bend, stoop, walk and reach overhead. Physical agility to push,
pull, twist and turn. Ability to safely operate lab equipment.
Ability to wear PPE while performing job duties. Mental acuity to
perform the essential job functions of this position in a safe,
accurate, and timely manner and to make sound judgments and
decisions. Working Conditions: General Pharmacy Environment. Work
is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and
walking for up to 10% of the time. The working environment is
generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and
there are no unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.
Hazardous chemicals may be compounded within the laboratory. Work
is generally performed within a pharmacy environment, with standard
lab equipment, office and computerized office equipment. This
